Ride - 22nd March
So we thought that we might try and get the 1st part of the Bognor run out of the way so that we have some idea of where we are supposed to be going. After much deliberation over the maps to shed some light on the trails, we headed over to the cafe at Devils Punch Bowl to kick off this foray into the unknown! So, 1st up we had to find the trig point at Gibbets Hill.. And that proved to be a little difficult as there are no signs on the ground, and having started heading back up the A3 towards London, we figured that we had gone wrong. So a quick backtrack up the hill we had sailed down, and then a little more mooching around somewhere near the summit, we thought that we had figured out our mistake and took a trail which headed downwards. Well, we got that wrong, and headed down completely the wrong trail. We ended up having to go back up the hill that we had just come down yet again! As we crested this new hill, we realised where we should have come out on this trail, which was good news, as we could at least go back up this way to make sure of our bearings. By now, my back brake was finally giving up the ghost. With the level full back against the bars it was just about effective, but only by a small margin. Anyways, 4 hours later, we managed to cover quite a bit of ground, and had headed back up the route (with some small changes) so that we could make sure that we know where we are going on the 20th!
